Billmonk seems to timeout when there are stale cookies. I’ve also reported a bug where it times out for a transaction involving over 20 people. Is anyone monitoring Billmonk’s bugs?
Love this service, will pay for it. As a developer, can also help fix bugs and create a mobile app.

Suggestion:
I would like to see a feature of searching the bills by name or the amount. Because its really hard to track them down sometimes if you did not put the date on the bill to be the same as on the bill(which happens with me quite often)

As mentioned above, you should try removing your BillMonk.com cookies. I was getting this infernal (teehee) error as well, and that solved it.

BillMonk’s working alright for me now, but when it was failing, I tried deleting cookies and even using different browsers and nothing worked, so there was to it than cache or cookies issues.
But what’s more disconcerting about the all situation is that there’s no official feedback from BillMonk or Obopay. Besides all the comments in this post, me and other users have tried to contact BillMonk and Obopay through several means with no response whatsoever!

I think Billmonk has scaled so much in the past 6 years that it is now facing scalability issues. The load times are sometimes very slow, and a bit annoying. Also, sometimes when the page crashed mid-way through a long itemized bill, you feel pain. 🙂
That said – fantastic job in keeping the website up and running. Very few of us realize that keeping such a service up and running for free is a lot of work. I think Billmonk needs to do something radical – ask for donations the way Wikipedia did, or start advertising to keep the service smooth. Or maybe even something as whacky as allowing people to download a desktop version of the app. Something – anything.

I need access to bill monk. Bill monk was telling me that my password was incorrect and it will not allow me to log in via facebook. I asked bill monk to send me a new temporary password but I have not received it in my mailbox yet. I have a great deal of data that I stored with my roommates regarding various bills and purchases. Just to re-iterate what’s been said above:
1) The web-site just doesn’t load.
2) Email triggers are gone, these are absolutely handy features.
3) We understand that you guys are facing issues with the huge load of traffic coming in. I think every grad student uses billmonk. That being said, it would be great if you guys could give us a sit-rep on what is going on, and what your plans are.

http://tabsplit.net/ seems to have all the features I need. It allows for splitting itemized dinner bills easily, which is something I relied on Billmonk to do. Still haven’t found something better than Billmonk when it was at it’s best. I would donate to keep it alive.

Hey Ankur, that’s strange. Could you try again? No this is not a scam. But the backup service is in itself dependent on Billmonk being up, so it is 1) not instant and 2) not 100% reliable.
But once you have made a request on billmonkbackup.com, our machines will keep trying to get a backup copy of the data to send to you. (its bound to be better than trying it manually yourself).
It is strange that you haven’t received your backup, we have helped hundreds of users get their backup data, usually within 24 hours of their request.

Its because the email service is not working in your bill monk website. Check the mail functionality of your bill monk application or the server where the application has been hosted.

Is Billmonk team acknowledging that there is an issue with their site.
After i log in I am not able to perform any transactions.. always displays “oops you found a bug ….”.
I really liked billmonk… Is billmonk going to address these issues or should we move to some other tool/site.

I have been facing the same “oops you found a bug” error for the last couple of weeks now. I have tried to contact the Billmonk team but I see no response or an acknowledgement of the website’s state.
I hope the Billmonk team gets back soon with an update. My friends have already started moving to other services and I am not sure if I will stick around either. They have terrible turnaround times.

I moved to splitwise. At least they are developing something and it works just fine. I loved billmonk but I don’t want to waste hours and hours to report a bill. And at the end of it, it doesn’t even work. Guess it is time for billmonk to R.I.P.

Yeah, BillMonk seems to be at the end of its ropes. The Report payment hasn’t worked for at least 2 weeks, perhaps more. Thanks for the suggestion of splitwise!
